4 Tips To Get Your Car Fixed After A Collision

Posted on: 23 February 2019

A car accident can cause severe damage to your vehicle, and it can even injure you and your passengers. There are a lot of matters to take care of immediately following an automobile collision, but once you have exchanged information with the other driver and gotten medically evaluated, it's time to take care of your car. Here are four tips to help you get your car fixed after a collision:

1. Don't neglect your auto glass.

If your windshield or windows were damaged in the accident, it's important that you get them repaired right away. Left untreated, a crack in your auto glass can widen and eventually cause a complete failure. Most windshield repair services will make house calls, so you can have it done at your home to save time and effort. If your windshield sustained serious damage, you may have to have it completely replaced.

2. Research auto body repair shops.

If your car was involved in a collision more serious than a fender bender, there may be extensive damage to your car's body. Dented doors, smashed bumpers, and broken headlights are all issues that should be remedied, at a shop like Westside Fender/Body & Refinishing, as soon as possible. If you don't have an auto body repair shop in mind already, make sure to do your research before taking your car there. Look for places with favorable reviews online and ask people you trust for recommendations.

3. Call for a price estimate.

You don't want to end up surprised when you get the bill for your car's repairs, so get a price estimate in advance. You can do this by describing the extent of your car's damage to a mechanic over the phone. Depending on the type of repair work you need completed, you'll be given a price quote. You should expect to pay for parts and labor. If the other driver was at fault, their insurance company may pay for some or all of the cost of your repairs.

4. Remember you may need a fresh coat of paint.

If your car was merely dented in the accident, an auto body repair technician will be able to remove the dent without damaging your paint. However, if the damage was severe, or if your car's paint was scraped off in the collision, you may need to have your car repainted to make it look as good as new. Most auto body shops can also offer this service, so you won't have to go elsewhere.
